The Vizhinjam International Transshipment Deepwater Multipurpose Seaport is an ambitious project undertaken by the Government of Kerala. The port is primarily designed to handle container transshipment, in addition to multipurpose and break-bulk cargo. It is being developed under a landlord model through a Public–Private Partnership (PPP) on a Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT) basis. The private partner and concessionaire, M/s Adani Vizhinjam Port Private Limited, commenced construction of the project on 5 December 2015.
